Canoe Paddles

I once cleaned an old paddle which had washed up on a lakeshore and painted it with a loon design. People liked it, and now there are nine wildlife subjects that I paint to order on 48- inch long (122cm) paddles featuring a beavertail style blade. The hand-made maple paddles are individually painted and, though the subjects are the same, I make changes in detail so each piece is unique. They cost $300.

Vertical models have a toggle and hang on a picture hook; the horizontal versions come with a set of wooden mounting brackets.

Details

I often hear gallery and art show visitors comment on the finish of the paddle handles. Complementary designs are used to give the paddle a finished 'arty' look.
